„Contemporary History of Ukraine #18“ ist eine Installation der ukrainischen Künstlerin und Filmemacherin Oksana Kazmina in der aktuellen Ausstellung „Land(e)scapes. Recognizing Fragmentarity“ (bis 14. Dezember 2024). Diese Multimedia-Installation ist die 18. Episode von Kazminas Serie „Contemporary History of Ukraine“, in der Kazmina ihr Archiv dokumentarischer und kreativer Projekte neu ordnet, an denen sie seit 2015 gemeinsam arbeitet. Ausgehend von einer Geschichte der Untergrundszene Kyjiws entwickelte sich das Projekt zu einer offenen Materialsammlung, die vom krisengezeichneten Leben in der Ukraine der Gegenwart erzählt. In diesem Projekt arbeitet Kazmina mit weiteren Personen zusammen wie z.B. der Grafikdesignerin Uliana Bychenkova, der Kuratorin Kateryna Badianova und dem Kollektiv Freefilmers, dem Kazmina selbst auch angehört.
Diese Veranstaltung bildet gleichzeitig den Abschluss der Episode 18 und der Ausstellung. In einer Live-Videomontage werden verschiedene Elemente der Installation thematisiert. Dazu zählen 13 Secondhand-Kleidungsstücke, die Kazmina in unterschiedlichen Orten der Ukraine gekauft hat. Sie werden – wie bereits bei der Eröffnung der Ausstellung – in einer Modenschau präsentiert. In der Videomontage werden weitere Bilder und Elemente erscheinen, beispielsweise eine Schriftart, die Kazmina derzeit in Zusammenarbeit mit Freefilmers und Bychenkova entwickelt.
Abschließend werden alle Kleidungsstücke als Kunstobjekte in einer Auktion versteigert. Der Erlös kommt den Projekten von Freefilmers zugute. Dabei handelt es sich um ein Kollektiv von Filmemacher:innen und Künstler:innen, das ursprünglich in Mariupol gegründet wurde und vom Krieg stark betroffene Menschen in der Ostukraine auf unterschiedliche Art und Weise unterstützt.

"Contemporary History of Ukraine #18" is an installation by Ukrainian artist and filmmaker Oksana Kazmina in the current exhibition "Land(e)scapes. Recognizing Fragmentarity" (until December 14, 2024). This multimedia installation is the 18th episode of Kazmina's series "Contemporary History of Ukraine," in which Kazmina has been rearranging her archive of documentary and creative projects she has been working on collaboratively since 2015. Starting with a history of Kyiv's underground scene, the project developed into an open collection of material that tells of crisis-ridden life in contemporary Ukraine. In this project, Kazmina is working with other people such as graphic designer Uliana Bychenkova, curator Kateryna Badianova, and the Freefilmers collective, of which Kazmina is also a member.
This event also marks the end of episode 18 and the exhibition. Various elements of the installation are addressed in a live video montage. These include 13 second-hand items of clothing that Kazmina bought in different places in Ukraine. As at the opening of the exhibition, they will be presented in a fashion show. Other images and elements will appear in the video montage, such as a typeface Kazmina is currently developing in collaboration with Freefilmers and Bychenkova.
Finally, all items of clothing will be auctioned off as art objects. The proceeds will benefit the projects of Freefilmers, a collective of filmmakers and artists originally founded in Mariupol that supports people in eastern Ukraine who have been severely affected by the war in various ways.
