Die HALLE 14 lud im Rahmen des 13. Lindenow-Festivals am 7. Oktober 2017 (14 und 16 Uhr) zur performativen Raumbegehung »A Social Space For Ease And Gesture« mit Marc Herbst, Künstler und Herausgeber des »Journal of Aesthetics & Protest«, und der Tänzerin Alexandra Schwartz ein. Sie untersuchten gemeinsam mit den Besuchern die Räume des Kunstzentrums als Schwelle zwischen potentiellem Experiment und realen Handlungsraum außerhalb des Kunstbereichs. Die beiden Performer verstehen den Raum der Kunst als Chance sozialer und politischer Aktivierung, die gerade in Zeiten gesellschaftlicher, nationalistischer sowie ökonomischer Krisen genutzt werden kann. Dieses »Kann« stand dabei im Zentrum. Die Veranstaltung fand in Kooperation mit dem Projektraum Phyllis Johnson in der HALLE 14 statt.
Marc Herbst, Mitbegründer und Mitherausgeber des »Journal of Aesthetics & Protest«, lebt und arbeitet als Autor, Künstler und Herausgeber in Leipzig. Als Künstler, Publizist und Wissenschaftler arbeitet er interdisziplinär an der Verbindung politischer, ökologischer, künstlerischer und gesellschaftlicher Fragestellung.
Alexandra Schwartz lebt und arbeitet in Leipzig. Sie arbeitet als Tänzerin an der Schnittstelle von Kunst und politischer Bildung. Ihre Projekte führten sie u.a. nach Israel, in die palästinensischen Autonomiegebiete, in den Iran und nach Indien. Mit contact bewegen e.V. forscht sie am politischen Potential von Contact Improvisation.

In context of the 13th Lindenow Festival, HALLE 14 initiated a performative space exploration on October, 7, 2017 (2 and 4 pm) with Marc Herbst, artist and publisher of the »Journal of Aesthetics & Protest«, and dancer Alexandra Schwartz. Together with the visitors, they evaluated the Center for Contemporary Art as threshold between potential experiment and an actual space of action outside of the common art scene. In this process, the performer understand the scope of art as chance for social and political activation, which is even more necessary in times of social, nationalistic and economic crises. In this sense, the »could« was central. The event was be realized in cooperation with the project space Phyllis Johnson at HALLE 14.
Marc Herbst, co-founder/co-editor of the Journal of Aesthetics & Protest, lives and works as author, artist and publisher in Leipzig. His interdisciplinary background combines professional experience as a researcher in the fields of policing, media work, public education, and at the the junctures of politics, ecology, art and social life.
Alexandra Schwartz lives and works in Leipzig. She is a dancer and networker based in Leipzig. As dancer she operates between art and political education. She has performed across Europe, in Israel, in the Palestinian Territories, Iran and India. With contact bewegen e.V., she researches the political potential of contact improvisation.
