Residence Program

Within the framework of the Residence programme HALLE 14 awards grants and organises artists’ residencies in cooperation with national and international institutions which give residency grants to artists who they would like to send to Leipzig.

In order to steadily widen our network, HALLE 14 is looking for new partner institutions. We can offer the grant holders generously-sized studios, considerable support as well as involvement in HALLE 14’s programme and PR activities.

The relevant studios are then available for the artists sent to Leipzig for the duration of their scholarships. There they can concentrate and work intensively on new ideas, projects and artwork without any pressure or financial worries. They can allow themselves to be inspired by new subjects and by the city of Leipzig as a diverse place for research, as well as simultaneously bring to the city new impulses for artistic diversity.

The grant holders are closely monitored and receive substantial help from the HALLE 14 team to make new contacts and implement their projects. They additionally benefit from the infrastructure of the art centre and have the opportunity to present their works within the framework of Open Studios and Artist Talks. Exhibitions, the art library, the art education and event programme at HALLE 14, plus the lively art scene in Leipzig, which is centred in and around HALLE 14 as well as 10 other galleries, numerous studios and further creative centres that make up the Leipziger Baumwollspinnerei and the local neighbourhood, all help to provide the grant holders with artistic and intellectual stimulation.

HALLE 14 already has extensive experience with artists in residencies which have been initiated together with other art institutions. In 2005 and 2006, artists in residencies were run in cooperation with Spike Island (Bristol, GB) and the California College of Art (US). Since 2002, HALLE 14 has hosted and supervised scholarship holders from various private and public funding institutions, such as the Federkiel Foundation, Kulturstiftung des Freistaats Sachsen and the K.A.I.R. Programme (Košice, SK). From 2009 to 2011, the three-year Residency Exchange Program was successfully run in cooperation with the Wiels Centre for Contemporary Art (Brussels, BE) and the Maumaus School of Visual Arts (Lisbon, PT)
